Heat
Infrared Radiation wavelengths from the sun entering our hemisphere is commonly known as HEAT.
Since the first buildings were designed, architects have struggled with the need for natural light in building interiors and the need to provide thermal comfort to the people who live and work inside. Air conditioning provides a mechanical solution but it comes at a cost. Energy is getting more expensive and the systems needed to heat and cool commercial spaces place a demand on consumption and contribute to green house gas emissions.
Heat is one of the major forms of discomfort to the office work place reducing productivity due to our creature comfort distractions and ultimately resulting in lethargic employee performances.
To keep our offices comfortable and cool the air-conditioning systems are running longer, set cooler and generally at higher speeds to try and cope with the hotter work place environment.
If you consider standard clear glass will perform between 11% to 18% Total Solar Energy Rejection (TSER) then it is fair to acknowledge a Solar Control Film performance between 60% and 81% TSER is a strong performer in reducing Solar Heat Gain into your office or building.

One of the most cost effective solutions in reducing Heat
into the office space is applying Cooltone Solar Control Film to the windows. Up to 81% Heat rejection can be achieved resulting in substantial reduction in Solar Heat Gain into the office space. Air-conditioning units will operate more efficiently and economically with the end result having real dollar savings in energy costs. Over time the saving in energy costs could far exceed the initial investment cost of applying a Heat rejecting solar film.
Golden Casket Building BEFORE and AFTER

Clever Building Managers have upgraded their windows to include solar film, passing the energy savings onto tenants who benefit from comfortable indoor environments, a reduction in glare on computer screens and improved employee satisfaction.
Whichever way it’s viewed, solar window film makes a world of business sense.

Applying a Cooltone Solar Control Film will assist in stopping the 'Dueling Thermostat Syndrome'. It is common in the office environment to have part of the office space hot and the balance noticeably cooler – this occurs due to the hotter part of the office having been heated by exposure to the sun while the rest of the office is in the inner or shaded part of the office protected from the sun.
Whether it is an office space or commercial building the effects are the same and applying a Cooltone Solar Control Film will assist in reducing hotspots and providing a consistent temperature throughout the building or office space thus allowing the air-conditioning systems to operate efficiently, economically and balanced.
In addition to controlling heat Cooltone Solar Control Films provide protection from other unwanted and or damaging sun rays. In most cases Cooltone Solar Control Films block over 99% UV and depending on which film is selected can reduce Glare up to 95% and Fade up to 83%.
Glare often is often a problem in the office environment. Click ‘here’ (link to Glare page) for more information.
We are often asked ‘can we have heat rejection but not make our windows look like a mirror?’ ……. The answer is YES. Cooltone carry a selective range of films from
Solar Gard™and Scotchtint™ designed specifically to minimize the ‘mirrored look’ compared to the conventional reflective style films in the market. Having said that we should point out that glass is naturally reflective due to its high gloss finish therefore any coating applied to the inside of glass is likely to increase its reflectivity. It is by using different films that we can achieve a varying appearance of your window reflectivity either making it darker, more mirrored or less.
Would you like a clear ‘see in’ shopfront and still achieve over 55% Heat rejection? With new technology films we can now coat your existing glazing with near clear films allowing equal ‘see in’ ability like clear glass yet still reject over 55% Heat. Cooltone has a selection of Spectrally Selective specific films designed to provide you Solar Heat protection while allowing maximum viewing into your showroom. Prestige™ by 3M Australia and LX70™ by Bekaert Specialty Films are two elite Spectrally Selective films unique for their almost clear appearance yet reject between 55% and 59% Solar Heat. An ideal solution for your clients to see your display day and night.
...............You may be elgible for a Grant!
Brisbane City Council is offering substantial financial incentives to developers who build best practice sustainable office buildings.
The grants will be a Lump Sum Payment on completion of the sustainable building. Part of the long term benefits is to reduce energy usage.
One method of reducing energy usage is the application of a Heat rejecting Cooltone Solar Control Film.
